COOL SEASON GRASSES
Orchardgrass gives high spring tonnage and is heat tolerant. Orchardgrass will head only once in early summer and has no after mass heading for the rest of the year. For hay production it is very important to use a very late heading variety to help first cutting quality. It is essential to give orchardgrass a 28 day rest period between cuttings or grazing and to leave a 4" residue to ensure stand longevity. Do not continuously graze.
