If you are feeding 60 lbs. of corn silage per head per day, at 65% moisture; that is about 20 pounds of corn silage dry matter. Another 1% fat in the silage will give you an additional .2 pound of added fat in the diet. This can reduce purchases of commodities.
Corn oil is corn oil, whether from conventional corn or from Energy Edge higher fat corn. The fatty acid profile in our Energy Edge corn is the same as any corn, there is just more of it because it has a bigger germ. Also, a bigger germ means additional protein.
Forget the Cottonseed—Grow Your Own Inputs
Corn oil fatty acid profile is very similar to cottonseed (Table 1). The corn oil is in the germ and not free fatty acids, so it doesn’t have rapid release in the rumen.
With the Energy Edge corn silage system, you can grow more energy per acre. Higher energy corn silage reduces the need to buy added fat from other sources and allows you to reduce corn grain amounts to make a healthier ration.
